Billabong Girls Days 08: A Celebration of Women’s Surfing
The Billabong Girls an entirely free event is open to beginners and advanced female surfers, aged between 10 and 30. The weekend ensures a fantastic opportunity to discover surfing. Here’s the action-packed schedule…
Each day will start with a yoga session, the perfect warm-up before the surf. There will be two surf sessions each day, where participants can either learn to surf or improve their technique. The girls will be divided into groups according to their skills and will receive tutoring from professional teachers as well as Billabong Pro surfers Léa Brassy and Alana Brennan.
In between the two sessions, the girls will be given tips on how to pick their equipment, choose a wave, how to behave in the water and surf safety. To complement the learning, the girls will watch surfing videos and have the opportunity to talk to pro surfers about their recent surf trip to Tahiti in May 2008. (All boards and wetsuits will be provided by Billabong.)
The Billabong Girls Days also aim to raise awareness of environmental matters. Pro-rider and Surfrider Foundation members will hold workshops and conferences to raise awareness about the environment and there will be a special nutrition workshop showing how to feel good in mind and body through living a healthy lifestyle. Then, as the day comes to an end, a hip hop dance class will kick off the evening.
